Location | The
skin is the largest organ of the human body.
It is sensitive to external factors, such as uv rays, dirt and cold
weather, as well as emotional influences like stress. These conditions
have adverse effects on the skin. However, most problems can be
prevented with proper maintenance. The skin produces millions of new
cells each day, completely regenerating itself within 30-40 days.
Around the age of 35, the skin's natural rejuvenating processes begin
to slow, at which point a facial mask can be extremely beneficial.
Before applying a
mask, cleanse the skin with witch hazel. To apply a mask properly,
begin at the chin then move up to the cheeks and forehead. Apply the
mask to the nose next. Lastly, spread the mask on the throat, moving
from bottom to top. Treat yourself to
a facial mask once or twice each week, using fresh, organic ingredients
when possible. Whole-wheat
Flour Mask
| 1
qt. distilled water | | 4
tsp. dried or 8 tsp. fresh rose petals |
| peels
from 1-2 organic oranges |
| 2-3
tbsp. milk | | 2
tbsp. rose water | | 2
tsp. honey | | 4
tbsp. whole-wheat flour |
1. Boil the water and remove from heat. Add rose petals and orange
peels, cover, and allow to steep until lukewarm or cool.
2. In a seperate pan, heat milk, rose water and honey; remove from
heat. Add the flour and whisk into a thick paste.
3. Apply the paste to the face and neck. Leave on for 20 minutes.
4. Remove the mask with the rose-orange water. Pat dry.
5. Apply your favorite moisturizer. Since
honey is rich in sugars, enzymes and acids, it helps to disinfect and
heal blemishes. It can also freshen dry, stressed and sensitive skin.
Whole-wheat
flour is rich in vitamin E, an antioxidant that promotes cell
respiration, stimulates the production of anti-inflammatory compounds
and slows the aging process. It has also been suggested that vitamin E
can lower the risk of skin cancer. Roses
refine the structure of the skin and balance its functions.
